The Society of Women Artists (SWA) is a British art body and registered charity that has had a unique history dedicated to promoting art created by women. It was founded as the Society of Female Artists (SFA) in 1855 by Harriet Grote, offering women artists the opportunity to exhibit and sell their works. Since 1857, they have held annual exhibitions in London. Membership of the SWA is currently composed of 140 members. The SWA are keen to promote new artists from the UK and abroad and encourage non-members and young artists to show their work at the SWA annual Mall gallery exhibition.
I will be selling my unique enamel jewellery and a series of new landscape paintings at this years Hastings Arts Forum Christmas Fair. Lots of wonderful arts and crafts available.
Back home from touring the uk in ‘Is This Planet Earth?’, The Reekie Collection will be on show in St Leonards as part of the Coastal Currents festival. In this collection of oil paintings I have explored our fascination with Nature’s curiosities – unfamiliar organic forms have been preserved and presented for us to gaze upon. Inspired by genuine Victorian specimens, the works have an air of authenticity and importance. However, on closer inspection, the creatures are imagined – just like the form and depth are in the picture itself.
Hastings Arts Forum, 36 Marina, St Leonards on Sea 2 Apr – 14 Apr 11am -5pm. Closed Monday.
Open evening: 5 Apr, 6.30 – 8.30pm
SoCo (South Coast Artists) have chosen to respond to Hastings Arts Forum’s recent show The Bigger Picture with their own exhibition entitled A Smaller Picture. The exhibition will include paintings, prints, photography and three dimensional work. SoCo is a large group of professional artists, based in East Sussex who exhibit regularly at The Arts Forum and other venues.
An exhibition of surreal landscape paintings and drawings by local artist Katherine Reekie. This collection of recent and past works explores our fascination with the monumental. From standing stones to topiary, the world is covered in impressive examples of humanity’s ability to create art in the landscape. Katherine presents a series of imagined scenes that explore the strange and powerful effect that scale and environment have on our perception. Her intention is not to depict reality but to nudge people to question and consider it. A Coastal Currents event.

I am very proud to announce that my artwork has been commissioned to feature in this new Sky1 crime drama.
‘The Five’ is a ten-part British drama written by the best-selling American crime writer Harlan Coben. The series has been created by Red Productions, the team who also produced ‘Happy Valley’ and ‘Shameless’. It is a ‘taut mystery about the consequences of a terrible childhood incident for a group of friends’. I supplied a portfolio of images to the set designers. I am looking forward to seeing my artwork immortalised on screen. It starts on Friday the 15th of April at 9pm on Sky 1.
